Growing up in Southern California, I spent a lot of summer days at the beach. Bonfires, surfing, football in the sand... dude, it’s the middle of June and I’m hundreds of miles away from the beach. Cue homesickness right... now. One particular day I caved to some friends’ request to body surf (this is also known as fake surfing, or extreme boredom). Anyway, we were wading in the water, playing a little splashy-splashy with the chicas, when I decided that I needed a little more excitement.
It has become generally accepted that most pornography users are men (72%), but the number of women (28%) that use pornography is on the rise. As pornography use continues to be more and more commonplace and accepted all over the world, it makes you wonder, “How does this affect my current or future romantic relationship?” As far as porn and relationships go, it can be summed up in one word: problems. Some would argue that porn helps couples become closer or it reignites the spark of romance. Reality could not be farther from those statements.
A few weeks ago we got this message on Facebook, we don’t always share these posts, but some stories need to be heard. The Facebook Fighter wrote: "Pornography was the biggest mistake of my life. I regret it more than anything. If I had a time machine, I'd go back and stay away from it. I would rather have thrown my computer out a window and smashed it into pieces.
Our movement has one main goal: to educate young people about the harmful effects of pornography. The campaign’s mission has always been focused on spreading awareness. As we have pursued our purpose we have had some pretty cool experiences, but it seemed like we kept hearing the same story over and over again. Young people coming up to us, calling, emailing, “I am already caught up in this, I need help.”The seed of FORTIFY took root. Now after nearly two years of research we are proud to announce the book is available now, with the FREE online program coming soon.
