Middle school students weren’t the only ones who attended the recent assembly performed by Fight the New Drug at South Hills Middle school on October 26, 2011. The Riverton School was holding their annual Red Ribbon Week and FTND was invited to present on the harmful and potentially addictive effects of pornography in a school wide assembly. Most of the events held during Red Ribbon Week did not attract that of media reporters but a topic as controversial as Pornography was definitely news worthy in the eyes of the Deseret News.
Supporters of Fight the New Drug can all agree that this is an important message that needs to be heard but have you considered the impact of actually presenting this information directly to the youth in a public school setting? Getting our foot in the door to a school to be given the opportunity to present is one of our main goals, but having the event reported on by a major Utah media outlet, well that’s just the icing on the cake.
